Elsbeth Espenschied died peacefully at her home on April 18, 2023.
A longtime resident of Beacon, New York, Elsbeth was born on July 26, 1925 in Kaiserslautern, Germany, to Ferdinand and Elisabeth Espenschied. Elsbeth was educated as a multi-lingual secretary and worked with the US Army as a translator/secretary both during and after World War II. She then became a legal secretary to John Palisi, Esq. in Beacon, and thereafter joined the firm of Van DeWater & Van DeWater, where she came to be a most capable and loyal office manager/paralegal and secretary.
She was a dedicated and supportive member of the Reformed Church of Beacon and a loving caretaker of dogs and cats, both those owned by her and those owned by no one.
Having survived her brothers, Ferdinand and Carl Espenschied, and her sister, Barbara Espenschied, Elsbeth is survived by her sister-in-law, Friedegard Espenschied, her nephews, Peter and Christopher Espenschied, her niece, Brigitte Jacob, her great-nephews, Christian Jacob, David Espenschied and Nicolas Espenschied and her great-niece, Susanne Jacob.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Irina Pizarro for her loving and devoted care during the last several years of Elsbeth’s life. Elsbeth could not have continued to stay in her home, her most fervent wish, if not for the extraordinary care provided by Irina.
